Cargo Service & Livestock Movement Information
Routes
The Concordia Bay has two cargo routes, West Islands (which visits places such as Saunders, West Point, Beaver and Dyke Islands for example) and South East Islands & Fox Bay (which includes destinations such as Speedwell, Lively and Sea Lion Islands) which also delivers fuel to Port Howard and Fox Bay.
Each run is operated approximately every 6 weeks.
Cargo Receiving
Cargo receiving dates for the West Island and South East & Fox Bay cargo runs can be found on our calendar, but are usually approximately a week prior to the start of the cargo run.
Cargo is received at the WSL Warehouse within the Fortuna Ltd. yard located on Boxer Bridge Road (east of FIPASS). The entrance is almost directly opposite the Temporary Dock Facility causeway. All cargo must be accompanied by a Cargo Booking Notice which must contain correct dimensions and weights for the cargo. The Cargo Booking Notice and guidelines on completing it can be found here (link).
Cargo Booking Notices can also be obtained from the office.
Inbound Cargo
Cargo Booking Notices for inbound cargo should be submitted to the office during the same period/dates as Cargo Receiving. Cargo that is not pre-notified to the office prior to the ship departing on the cargo run risks not being carried if there is not adequate space in containers.
Inbound cargo will be transported from New Haven to the WSL Warehouse where it will be made available for collection.

However, this is weather and sea state dependant and at the discretion of the Master, animals may need to be contained in an appropriate stock trailer or crate for transport to ensure animal and crew safety. If this necessary, as much notice as possible will be provided and arrangements for the appropriate containment options will be discussed with the sender.

This policy is for moving cattle directly to FIMCO for slaughter. The booking for these animals will be coordinated and requested by the FIMCO logistics manager.
- Animals going to FIMCO for slaughter will only be carried in FIMCO crates.
- The FIMCO crates must be delivered to the place of loading at a time nominated by WSL.
- Cattle must be loaded by the farm owner or persons appointed by the farm owner.

WSL reserves the right to make discretionary decisions regarding cattle transport, considering weather, sea conditions and cargo logistics to ensure that efficient and safe movements of livestock, crew, and vessel are always maintained. It is important to note that handling scenarios vary depending on pickup and drop off point which may preclude carrying cattle in pens on deck and/or in stock trailers.
General Information
-
* As a guide, each FIMCO crate can typically accommodate between 5 and 9 animals, depending on size and weight.
-
The shipper is responsible for contacting FIMCO directly to arrange hire of crates and their delivery to New Haven (or the relevant port of departure) in sufficient time prior to the vessel’s scheduled departure. All costs associated with crate hire and positioning are the responsibility of the shipper and are not chargeable to WSL.
-
The shipper must provide suitable personnel to assist with loading. For safety reasons, vessel crew are not permitted to enter crates or pens containing cattle due to the risk of injury. Accordingly, all loading of livestock crates must be carried out by the shipper’s personnel.
-
WSL will endeavour to minimise steaming time between loading and discharge. Where practicable, the time between loading and discharge should not exceed 8 hours, unless otherwise agreed in advance or where unavoidable delays occur due to unforeseen circumstances. For journeys exceeding this duration, the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals in Transport will apply and dictate the required conditions. In such cases, the provision of food and water may be required from the shipper.
-
Suitable personnel and arrangements must be in place at New Haven (or any other port of discharge) prior to the vessel’s arrival to ensure immediate offloading of livestock.
-
All cattle must travel with valid passports and an Animal Movement Form, which can be obtained from the Department of Agriculture (DoA) or FIMCO.
