WSL PROUD TO BE SUPPORTING LOCAL SPORTS CLUB & ATHLETES

All eyes are on the sporting scene this month as some WSL sponsored athletes take to the pitch and road!

WSL Sponsored Cycling Team We are sponsoring one of the 4-A-Side Stanley Services Indoor League footbal teams.   Our team got off to a rip-roaring start, winning 3-0 to the Rose Bar team; a win that has us sitting second in the league table.  Go Team Workboat Services!

And on the international stage we are sponsoring the Falkland Islands Cycling Team of Jim Horton and Jake Summers as they head off to  the 20th International Island Games in Orkney 25.  Both Jim and Jake will compete in the 45km Time Trial and 99km Road Race;  Jake will also enter the Criterium.  Good luck to the whole of Team Falklands who in addition to cycling will compete in  archery,  badminton, bowls, golf  and swimming.

Our Operations Manager, Sally Ellis, will have a ringside seat at the Island Games as she moonlights doing the media coverage for the Falkland Islands National Sports Council.515310786 122162029622536361 7686063061775649167 n

ENJOY STANLEY FROM THE SEA!WSL Whale Watching Tours

In the quiet months between fishing seasons we are pleased to offer our catamaran, Stevelly Bay, out on charter for harbour tours, sightseeing and with a bit of luck maybe a some whale watching (and certainly you will enjoy some wildlife even in the winter).  The tours can be tailor-made to suit your requirements but we would recommend 2 to 3 hours duration, whcih will give you plenty of time to enjoy views of colourful Stanley, close up views of some favourite local haunts like Gypsy Cove and Yorke Bay, and the Port William area.

The launch can carry up to 12 people, and rates start at £200 per house, so a two hour tour would start at under £35 per head.

Available weekends as well ... maybe a pre Sunday brunch trip, or post lunch blast of fresh air!  And what a great idea for a birthday outing!

Lively Island ramp load 1Lively Island ramp unload 1CHALLENGE OF A HEAVY DUTY ISLAND DELIVERY

Throughout April we have been delivering considerable amounts of machinery and material to Lively Island, which lies at the head of Choiseul Sound to the east of East Falkland, in preparation for renewal of their ramp/  The improved landing facility will provide a better platform for future operations on the Island from collection of their wool to delivery of their stores and fuel.    This is a Falkland Islands Government funded project, and the work has been contracted to JK Contracting.    It has been a logistical challenge and team effort co-ordinating the designated trips, as well as using existing operations such as the SE Island & FXB cargo run, to get all the equipment to the island ready for start of works on 01 May.    The project is expected to take a couple of months to complete.

SB6WORKBOAT SERVICES LAUNCH INTO HARBOUR WORK

Workboat Services Ltd. are pleased to announce the arrival of their launch Stevelly Bay in Stanley. The 16m catamaran, crewed by Owen Betts and Brendan Ford, will initially offer support to Fortuna Ltd.’s fishing fleet and then hopefully to the wider market including some tourism work. Thank you to Jason Short and Leo Alvarez for assisting with the offload from the FIRS and delivery from Mare Harbour.

On 25 March we took our primary client’s (Fortuna Ltd.) Directors, management and staff out on Stevelly Bay so they could familiarise themselves with the launch. And we have carried out similar trips for other fishing industry reps, whilst the crew have been getting to grips with how the launch handles in the ever changing weather in the Falklands, and how to make best use of the extensive deck space for cargo.      Published 26 March
